On the campus of Boca Raton Regional Hospital and Lynn Cancer Institute, a plethora of opportunities are afforded to residents to provide ministry to patients, family members and staff from religiously and culturally diverse populations, as well as give exposure to a variety of medical specialties. Boca Raton Regional Hospital is a part of the largest faith based healthcare system in South Florida.
With four residents per year, this Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Residency Program offers an individualized approach to the “action, reflection” model of learning. The small peer group sessions and individual supervisory sessions with the Certified Educator allow for trust to be built and authentic sharing to occur so students get the most from their learning experience.
Desired learning goals for each resident are integrated into the curriculum. Given South Florida’s diverse population, the curriculum also strives to expose students to major world religions and a variety of cultures and help them understand “interfaith chaplaincy.” Residents will also strengthen their listening and interpersonal skills, their capacity to sit with others in emotional, physical, and spiritual pain, convey a non-anxious presence and learn more about grief and loss. They will also develop their leadership and team-building skills through collaboration on inter-professional teams and community engagement.
Our educators and board certified staff chaplains also assist our chaplain residents with navigating through the board certification process for professional chaplains. Baptist Health South Florida provides a personalized patient and family-centered environment and has consistently received high patient satisfaction scores. It is known in the community for its commitment to caring and for its charitable services.
Our vision is to offer a spiritual care residency program in South Florida of the highest caliber and to be known for providing quality education, learning experiences and care and support to the students who participate, while serving the community at large and honoring the Baptist Health South Florida mission.
The Baptist Health South Florida CPE program offers Level I and Level II training. We are provisionally accredited with the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education and currently operate as a satellite of Advent Health Orlando CPE System Center.
